Public outreach

If you or your organization is interested in working with us to show a peak oil presentation, please contact us.

Our outreach team is bursting with ideas of how to get the word out about peak oil and our group! So far members of the group have appeared on public cable access, on local nightly news, the local Air America affiliate, and presented at City Repair's Village Building Convergence. Portland Peak Oil has been mentioned in EnergyBulletin, the Oregonian, the Portland Tribune, TreeHugger.com, and various Portland neighborhood publications.

The outreach working group meets on the fourth Monday night of each month to discuss ideas and actions. The following are examples of our involvement in peak oil outreach:

  • Articles in local papers, bulletins, and magazines
  • "Pitches" at neighborhood association meetings
  • Handwritten letter writing to urge officials and organizations to take on peak oil preparation
  • Peak Oil 101 presentations at schools and clubs
  • Lobbying/talking to City Council and METRO officials
  • Recruiting knowledgeable speakers to come and speak to the group
  • Tabling and flyering at speaker events and conferences
  • Various fun culture jamming ideas

...and lots more! Whether you're an idea person or action-oriented, the outreach group wants your input and energy. In addition, if you would like to help get the word out about Portland Peak Oil, please contact us. We need more hands posting our flyers about town and writing articles for local media outlets.
